GAUTIER MASSONNEAU

FOUNDER & CREATIVE DIRECTOR

TRILOBE

“Strangely enough, my favourite book related to time is not on watchmaking itself, far from it; it is a Chinese science fiction novel called The Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin. This book inspires and reveals different perspectives on the spacio- temporal relationship, notably through the warp drive, and most particularly in the last installment of the series, titled Death’s End. This saga has opened many doors of reflection on the concept of time for me.”

Gautier Massonneau is the founder of Trilobe, a French watch brand known for its unconventional approach to time display. After a successful career in finance, Gautier transitioned into watchmaking with a desire to realise his unique interpretation of watchmaking. Drawing inspiration from architecture and his passion for design, he established Trilobe in 2018. The brand’s debut model, Les Matinaux, features a dial with three rotating rings, each representing hours, minutes, and seconds—eliminating traditional hands altogether.

Gautier’s vision for Trilobe was to challenge conventional watchmaking by offering an entirely new way to read time while maintaining mechanical excellence. The brand quickly gained recognition for its innovative approach, combining horological tradition with modern design principles. Under his leadership, Trilobe has introduced several models that continue to push boundaries, reflecting Gautier’s commitment to both artistic creativity and precision engineering.

His unique perspective in the watch industry is shaped by his background and architectural influences, allowing Trilobe to stand out as a brand that merges creativity with technical mastery. Through Trilobe, Gautier continues to explore his creative vision, offering collectors an alternative to traditional watches.
