CÉDRIC JOHNER

WATCHMAKER

CEDRIC JOHNER HORLOGER INDÉPENDANT

“I work like a diesel engine. It takes me a while to get going, but then I’m very efficient at getting things done. I enjoy starting each morning over breakfast with my family; charging the batteries and getting the energy flowing is important.

The same applies to my workshop. I’m dependent on the mood of my machines, some of which are a hundred years old and are cranky. My mission is to find solutions, and I love the challenge.”

Cédric Johner is a Swiss watchmaker known for being one of the early proponents of artisanal watchmaking. His journey began with an unexpected introduction to the craft at Baselworld as a child. Fascinated by the mechanics of watches, he started his career at Chopard, where he developed a foundation in both the technical and aesthetic aspects of watchmaking. At just 23, he boldly became an independent watchmaker while further refining his craft through evening classes at Geneva’s watchmaking school.

Cédric launched his first series of watches at the 1997 Baselworld, eventually gaining attention through a significant order from a prominent American retailer. Subsequent Baselworlds enabled Cédric to expand his network of retailers and collectors, drawn to his eccentric aesthetic sensibilities and commitment to traditional watchmaking artistry.

Cédric remains committed to creating watches by hand and with specialised equipment in his Carouge workshop, unaided by CNC machines. Recently Cédric’s work reached a new audience through his limited edition collaboration on the Le Régulateur Louis Erard x Cédric Johner.
