ARNAUD NICOLAS
CEO & CREATIVE DIRECTOR
L’EPÉE 1839
“Inspiration strikes in the quiet moments, where the intricate dance of mechanics and creativity can truly unfold. At L’Epée 1839, every piece starts with a narrative—a story that we bring to life through the perfect marriage of form and function. It’s not just about making a clock; it’s about crafting an experience that challenges, evokes, and inspires.”
Arnaud Nicolas, CEO and Creative Director of L’Epée 1839, is known for transforming the brand into a leader in kinetic horological art. Arnaud’s career began in the space industry, where he worked as an engineer for a decade before pursuing his lifelong love for mechanical objects in 2009 after taking up the reins to lead L’Epée 1839 into the future.
Arnaud’s commitment from the beginning was to uniquely position L’Epée 1839 by blending the worlds of art and horology. Under his guidance, L’Epée 1839 pivoted from traditional clockmaking to making avant-garde creations that are as much artistic sculptures as they are clocks. One of the most enduring collaborations under Arnaud’s leadership has been with MB&F, resulting in multiple innovative clocks. These include the Starfleet Machine, a space station-inspired table clock, the Arachnophobia clock shaped like a spider, and the Fifth Element, a weather station that merges retro-futurism with whimsical design. These collaborations highlight Arnaud’s dedication to pushing creative boundaries while maintaining the brand’s savoir-faire.
In June 2024, LVMH acquired L’Epée 1839. The move underscores a shared commitment towards safeguarding the innovative clockmaker while providing additional resources and visibility to explore bold designs and exciting collaborations.
